And so you take your pencil and place the tip on the paper, and your hand moves smoothly across the surface, as you give shape to the path that opens up before you...
When sketching/drawing/painting, it is efficient that you find a starting point. Like every artist starts with the horizon point, so we are bound to start with something, may it be a point, a line, a shape, etc. Like in our lives, we always start from something, no?
When moving the line across the paper, you realise that it can follow not just a straight path. So you make a curve, a steep turn, a corner, and you either extend it further and towards different directions, or you end back up in square one.
Then you think that the line is better off with company.
So you draw more lines, either following the same direction, or a different one, sometimes crossing another line, or walking beside it.
The shapes start to form, and the sketch/drawing/painting becomes clearer now.You can sort of see what will come out of these lines and shapes.
So you continue moving your hand with grace and care, making beautiful patterns on the surface of the paper, and decorating it with cute little shapes.
The figure becomes clearer now, and the sketch is almost done.
But it is lifeless. There is no colour.
Like in our everyday life, when we miss something, it all becomes colourless.
So you grab the paint, may be it be a brush, a marker, a pastel, anything. Anything that can give life to this empty piece.
And so the tools gather, one by one, and they cooperate to make the drawing.
The figure is painted now; it has more life in it.
But, the background is empty. The figure is surrounded in blank-ness.
So you gather all the colours, and command them with the will of your hand to draw and paint the environment, in which the figure is in.
The hours pass without you realising it, but you're still above the paper, doing your best to fill it with life.
And soon, you're done.
You sit back and watch it carefully. A smile spreads on your lips.
It is yourself. Your mood, your personality, your very soul, imprinted on this paper. By taking out all your feelings, you made this beautiful piece. By expressing what you feel, who you truly are, you made this wonderful art.
And this is how your journey starts.
So take the pencil, and draw your own lines. The life will open wide before you.
And don't forget.
Your figure won't be alone.
:)
Have a good start.
